KIDS FIRST/OMS Athletics
KIDS FIRST/OMS Athletic program is for local 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The program is administered through Owatonna Community Education, which allows participants from OMS, St Mary's, Owatonna Online, home school and other local schools. It is supported largely by participant fees, with subsidies from Owatonna Community Education.
Fall 2023 Sports
Girls and Boys Cross Country - Grades 6-8
Football - Grades 7-8
Girls Volleyball - Grades 7-8
Registration opens up online on Monday, July 17.
Girls Tennis for 7th/8th Graders, Girls Swim & Dive for 7th/8th Graders, Boys & Girls Soccer for 8th Graders, Cheerleading for 7th/8th Graders must sign up with the High School programs.
Parent/Athlete Meetings
Fall Sports - Monday, August 21 at OMS - Cafeteria at 6:00 PM
The objective of holding Parent/Athlete meetings is to enhance communication between KIDS FIRST athletes, parents and coaches. All aspects of the program will be covered during these meetings. This is a mandatory meeting. Families unable to attend should notify OMS Activity Coordinator in advance. Coaching staff from each sport will meet with athletes and parents to cover team rules, expectations, and complete registration materials.
Fees & Scholarships
Participation fees will be $140.
Families with an approved application for the School District's Educational Benefits are eligible for these scholarships - Owatonna Youth Scholarship Foundation-$35, Owatonna Community Education-$35. These scholarships automatically attach to registrations when Educational Benefits form has been completed online.

Participation
All athletes participating in KIDS FIRST athletic programs will have equal opportunities to participate in practices and games. There are no tryouts. Athletes may be separated by abilities in practice and game situations. This will help coaches to enhance instruction at a more acceptable rate of progression. The exception to equal opportunities may be due to disciplinary reasons.
Sports Physicals
All students participating in the KIDS FIRST athletic program will need to have a MSHSL sports physical on file with the school district before the student is allowed to register online.

Items of Special Note
1. All programs will run Monday through Friday.
2. Practices run 3:00—5:00 p.m. There will be supervision setup for student/athletes immediately following the dismissal of classes (2:20) at OMS. Parents will need to pick up at completion of practice.
3. Parents are responsible for promptly picking up at OMS/practice site after practice.
